In his latest podcast for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, Ekklesia associate and regional adviser/expert Dr Harry Hagopian looks at the on-going fight to contain and repel IS/ISIS and the pressure on the borders of Iraq, Syria and Turkey. He also updates on moves to bring stability to Libya.

He says: “As we all know, the news agenda moves quickly. One day we’re focusing on the horrors of ISIS attacking Christians and Yazidis – killing and driving thousands out of their homes – the next day it’s the coalition’s air-based response. So have we forgotten Iraq’s minorities already? This is another topic of discussion on this podcast.

In Libya, key delegates met for a peace conference in Ghadames in the north western region of the country. It was organised by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya but is it a tentative step towards stability and security or another talking shop?
