‘Dangerous Women’ is the title of a conference taking place this weekend on the brave women who campaigned against the First World War, and for gender and social justice.
It is supported by the Jimmy Reid Foundation and takes place at the Pearce Institute in Govan, Glasgow, on Saturday 2 November 2013, from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
Ekklesia friend Dr Lesley Orr will be giving an overview of women’s anti-war activism. It was the Women’s Cooperative Guild who launched the white poppy, for example.
Then Helen Crawford will look at the Women’s Peace Crusade and Helen Kay will talk about Crystal Macmillan, the Hague Conference and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.
Finally, Catriona Burgess will present on Mary Balfour, the anti-war protests and the rent strikes.
