Evangelicals criticise channel 4 documentary about the Bible -19/12/04
An Evangelical Christian group has expressed anger at plans by Channel 4 to screen a documentary which suggests that some parts of the Bible may be inaccurate, and others are a ‘masterwork of spin’. The Evangelical Alliance is angry that “Who Wrote the Bible?”, which will go out at 8.30pm on Christmas Day, paints a negative picture of Christian organisations and suggests links between them and the troubles in the Middle East, reports the Observer newspaper. They have also expressed concerns about the presenter, Dr Robert Beckford, a reader in theology at Birmingham University and a popular speaker at the Christian arts festival Greenbelt. Beckford’s critically acclaimed documentary “God is Black”, looked at the challenge facing the Church of England in light of evangelicalism in both Britain and Africa.
