Tutu compares UK government actions to apartheid regime
-13/01/05
Archbishop Desmond Tutu lashed out at the United States for detaining prisoners at Guantanamo Bay without trial, and has called for the release of the remaining terror suspects detained without trial in the UK, reports the BBC.
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning rights advocate said it was “utterly unacceptable” the prisoners were being held without trial, saying that when South Africa’s apartheid government held people without charge, “the world quite rightly condemned that as unacceptable.”
