The Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott MP has celebrated the commissioning of his younger brother Adrian as a Church Army evangelist at a service held this week at Church Armyís Wilson Carlile College of Evangelism Sheffield.
The MP for Hull East was warmly welcomed by Church Armyís Chief Secretary, Hull-born Philip Johanson, who suggested that Mr Prescott ìrepresented the best constituency in the UKî. The Deputy Prime Minister spent time after the service meeting evangelists, college staff and their families and friends.
The Deputy PM said: ìThe service was very moving and quite unlike any other church service that I have attended before. I was impressed by the spirit and commitment of everyone here today- they showed me just how people of faith can make a real difference to communities. As a cabinet minister charged with the responsibility of investing millions of pounds into our communities I am delighted to see that Church Army is focussed in making a difference where it counts- out in the real world with real people.î
Mr Prescott was full of admiration for his younger brother whom he described as: ìalways having a sense of joy and peace about him- I am very proud of Adrian and I wanted to be here today to share in his commissioning as a Church Army evangelist. I know he will give 100% to his ministry because he is fully committed to it and has a real heart for young people.î
Mr Prescottís brother Adrian was one of eleven evangelists who were admitted to the office of Evangelist in the Church of England at Sheffield Cathedral by the Bishop of Lichfield, Rt Rev Jonathan Gledhill who encouraged the new evangelists with the words; ìYour hour has come to bring the news of a gospel that is needed more than ever in a world full this week of hate and chaos.î
Adrian Prescott will be joining fellow newly commissioned evangelists Dave Collier at Kidz Klub is a project based in Liverpool that has been working to transform the lives of young people on the Page Moss estate for over six years. Each week over 350 children flood through its doors to experience a type of ministry that is closer to Saturday morning TV than traditional church or Sunday school.
Phil Clark, project co-ordinator of Kidz Klub, says, ìIím very excited that Adrian and David will be joining the team in August and bringing with them their many varied skills and gifts which will make an exciting addition to the range of skills we have in Kidz Klub. Adrian is fantastic with modern gadgets and wants to work in schools while David wants to build relationships with the families of the Kidz Klub children. Itís a good combination as theyíve both got extra skills which will be good for the team and together we can build on the strengths we already have.”
The work of Kidz Klub is backed by the Bishop of Liverpool, Rt Rev James Jones who commented, ìI would like to offer a warm welcome to two recently commissioned Church Army evangelists Captainsí Adrian Prescott and David Collier who will be joining existing project leader Captain Phil Clark to continue and build upon the important work of Kidz Klub. I strongly support the exciting, life-changing work that is being done on the Page Moss estate and encourage you to get involved to support this great cause that is transforming childrenís lives.î
