Christians distance themselves from right-wing religious group

More evidence has come to light linking a group calling itself the ‘Christian Council of Britain’ (CCB) with the British National Party (BNP).
The evidence came as more Christian groups issued statements condemning the BNP and distancing themselves from the new group – which many are seeing as a front for the Far Right party.
Previously, little record of the group could be found, although its founder said that he was being helped by the BNP.
However a website for the CCB appeared on the internet on Wednesday, which was linked to from the BNP website.
Investigations subsequently revealed that the site was formally registered to ‘Steve Blake’, which is also the name of a member of the BNP’s Internet team.
Blake is the Assistant Organiser for the BNP in Central Scotland and has been a member of the BNP since 2000. He was recently a guest of the French National Front, according to the BNP’s web site to “familiarise himself with the machinations of the European Parliament should he be elected.”
He manages his own IT Consultancy Company in the Stirling area.
The CCB’s web site contains a number of recommended links to Evangelical organisations including the Barnabas Fund and the Lawyer’s Christian Fellowship, as well as the Church of Scotland website.
When these groups were informed about the links, they quickly issued a joint statement distancing themselves from both the BNP and the CCB.
“It has come to our attention that members of the British National Party (ìBNPî) have recently set up the Christian Council of Britain, whose website carries links to the websites of Barnabas Fund and the Lawyersí
Christian Fellowship and a website about the history of the Church of Scotland” their statement said.
“This implied association has been made without either our knowledge or our consent and we are taking steps to have the links removed. For the avoidance of doubt we wish to make it totally clear that Barnabas Fund, the Lawyersí Christian Fellowship and the Church of Scotland are not and never have been associated with either the Christian Council of Britain or the BNP” their statement said.
The Barnabas Fund, which works on behalf of persecuted Christians in Muslim countries around the world, also backed a statement by the Methodist Church which said that it was “outraged that the BNP and its allies” were “using Christianity to further their agenda of segregation and division.”
Churches Together in Britain and Ireland have also issued a statement endorsing the Methodist Church’s stance.
