Publisher rejects ‘Jesus Loves Porn Stars’ bibles

The American Bible Society is refusing to print New Testaments with covers that say “Jesus Loves Porn Stars.”
California pastors Mike Foster and Craig Gross, whose anti-porn ministry is called XXXchurch.com, had ordered 10,000 of the customized Bibles to hand out at adult film festivals.
The two regularly take their message directly to the people involved with adult films, regularly handing out Bibles at industry conferences.
But the edgy cover led the publisher to cancel the paid order for the bibles.
The American Bible Society says that while it appreciates the pastors’ mission, the words “Jesus Loves Porn Stars” are “misleading and inappropriate for a New Testament.”
But in a statement released on the Web site, the pastors said that they believe the publisher is wrong.
“We think this goes with the central message of the gospel and Jesus loves you regardless of your profession,” the statement read. “This is not about shock tactics, this is about trying to get the word of God to places most say would be impossible but we have found a way to do it.”
The pastors said they are confident the Bible will be printed, saying someone will step up and help in the effort.
The duo started the Web site, XXXchurch.com in 2002.
“The publisher is hindering the Gospel going forth,” said Gross, who argues that the ministry’s slogan doesn’t suggest Jesus loves pornography.
“Jesus is not OK with it,” he said.
