A national teach-in of non-violent alternatives to war with Iraq is being organised by a Christian community in the US.
Across the country, students are being encouraged to explore the complex issues surrounding the planned war on Iraq and engage in a dialogue about creative, non-violent options.
The initiative is the brainchild of the Sojourners community based in Washington DC, founded in 1971 to work for the integration of spirituality and social justice.
The informational gatherings are designed to help individuals better understand the complex issues surrounding the proposed war on Iraq and to encourage dialogue about creative, non-violent alternatives to war.
Questions they will look at include whether Saddam Hussein can be disarmed without war and what role non-violence might play in bringing justice and democracy to the Middle East.
As well as students, academic staff are also being included in the plans. The community is urging students to contact professors of religion, political science, sociology, international affairs, and Middle East studies.
