Message of solidarity sent to Spanish churches

A message of sadness and solidarity with the Churches of Spain has been sent by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland following the terrorist bombs which killed more than 200 people.
The message of condolence to the Spanish Committee for Inter Church Cooperation from CTBI general secretary Dr David Goodbourn said: “To our colleagues in the Spanish Committee for Inter Church Cooperation. All of us in Churches Together in Britain and Ireland were deeply shocked by last week’s events in Madrid. We have been impressed by the response of the Spanish people: we have heard talk of justice but not of revenge, of defending democracy but not of blaming minorities.
We want you to know that we are praying for you in these days of sorrow and reflection. The pastoral role of the Churches, and their message of hope and forgiveness, are of particular significance in times like these. May God give you strength for your work.”
Churches Together in Britain and Ireland is the umbrella body for all the major Christian Churches in Britain and Ireland.
It liaises with ecumenical bodies in Britain and Ireland as well as ecumenical organizations at European and world levels. Its work includes Church Life, Church and Society, Mission, Inter Faith Relations, International Affairs and Racial Justice. It provides a forum for joint decision-making and enables the Churches to take action together.
