Today the international relief and development agency World Vision has launched its two-week child sponsorship campaign with the support of Spice Girl and mum of one, Emma Bunton.
The child sponsorship campaign is appealing to people in the UK to consider becoming a child sponsor and give hope and a future to children living in some of the world’s most poverty stricken communities by providing them with opportunities and the resources they need in order to have a better standard of living.
Every second child in the world lives in destitution. 26,500 – 30,000 children die each day due to poverty, which is equivalent to 1 child dying every 3 seconds and almost ten million children dying every year.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu is also supporting the World Vision child sponsorship campaign. He said: “Inside us all is something strong enough to change the world. To refresh those without water, to care for the sick, to give a child joy – one small act of goodwill. It’s inside us all. Can you find it in your heart? Please sponsor a child with World Vision and stand with me as a World Vision goodwill ambassador. Because in one child’s eyes, your goodwill will change the whole world.”
This spring, to draw attention to this vital appeal and provide the essentials in life that are every child’s right; World Vision will be launching the child sponsorship campaign in London’s Trafalgar Square. Thousands of pairs of shoes will be laid across the square creating two giant footprints, with each shoe representing a child in desperate need of sponsorship living in less developed countries all around the world.
World Vision is asking the public to think about how they can really make a difference to the lives of children living in needless poverty by ‘stepping into their shoes’, and understand how easy it is to make a positive and sustainable difference to a child’s and their community’s life by giving £18 a month, 60p a day through the World Vision child sponsorship programme. It can all be done quickly and easily online.
Emma Bunton, goodwill ambassador for World Vision, said: “I’ve been sponsoring children with World Vision for more than 10 years and it’s been amazing watching them progress. I regularly communicate with the children I sponsor through personal Christmas and birthday cards and I’m kept up to date with their health and schooling. Through all my years of supporting World Vision, I’ve watched my sponsorship change lives and make a real difference among children and their communities.”
World Vision works to make a significant and sustainable impact on poverty and its causes, especially as they affect children. For as little as £18 per month, 60p per day, you can sponsor a child with World Vision and give them a better chance in life. Through child sponsorship, you can personally reach out and connect with a child and their community and follow their progress as they overcome incredible hardships and build for the future.
