UN food aid reaches besieged Syrian city

In a boost to international humanitarian efforts in Syria, the United Nations World Food Programme yesterday has delivered aid by air for hungry people trapped in the besieged eastern city of Deir Ezzor, an area controlled by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh).

David Cameron has not gone far enough to counter the abuse of UK tax havens, Christian Aid said yesterday (11 April 2016) after the Prime Minister announced that most UK Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies will create central registers of companies’ beneficial owners.

Impoverished country governments could be up to $61 billion worse off in 2016 as a result of the crash in global commodity prices and strengthening of the US dollar. This is reducing government revenue and increasing the relative size of debt payments in foreign currencies.
