Women have ‘barely half’ pension savings of men
Women have barely half the pension savings of men, according to a new TUC-sponsored report published on 1 March. The study, carried out by the Pensions Policy Institute, shows that women have, on average, £7,500 in savings in defined contribution schemes, compared to £14,500 for men.

Campaigners welcome EU call for Saudi Arabia arms embargo
Campaign Against Arms Trade has welcomed the European Parliament’s vote to support an arms embargo against Saudi Arabia. The amendment was passed by 359 votes to 212, with 31 abstentions.

The entire male adult population of an Iranian village has been executed on drugs charges, an Iranian official has claimed, amid concerns over a United Nations programme that funds the country’s Anti-Narcotics Police.

UN chief condemns apparent airtsrike on Yemeni market
Condemning an apparent airstrike in Yemen that reportedly killed at least 32 civilians in a market northeast of Sana’a on 27 February the UN Secretary-General has called for a prompt and impartial investigation into the incident, which saw a death toll among the highest from a single bombing in recent months.

UN adopts resolution tightening sanctions on North Korea
The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution that imposes new sanctions and tightens some of its existing measures against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, due to the country’s ongoing nuclear and ballistic missile-related activities that “threaten international peace and security.”
