Dear Friends,
Dear Friends,
This week we launched our Spring Appeal in the week we reflect on the meaning of Easter. At this time we recognise that Jesus’ death on the cross invites us to ally with those who are oppressed and suffering. That by his death and resurrection he is calling us to work together for justice, to create a new world rising out of the darkness of the old.
Ekklesia is a think tank committed to building that new world, particularly when it comes to developing alternatives to welfare reform.
For the last six years we have been urging the government to stop cutting benefits for the poorest people in society. Whilst we are pleased to see the latest threatened cut to Personal Independence Payments has been shelved, previous cuts have continued to hurt sick and disabled people and cause immense suffering. Which is why yesterday we and many other Christians wrote to Stephen Crabb, the new Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, asking him to change the approach to welfare reform. The letter has been picked up in the national, Scottish, Welsh and church press, and Virginia Moffatt, Ekklesia’s Chief Operating Officer discussed it on Premier Radio at lunchtime today. (19 mins in).
We believe this work plays a vital part in raising awareness of the terrible impact of welfare reform. Can you help us continue to make such interventions?
